SCEI’s “I Am My Brothers Keeper” 2nd Annual Male Empowerment Conference

The Sigma Community Enrichment Initiative (SCEI), Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc – Chi Sigma Chapter, Rutgers Medical School, and The Newark Mentoring Movement 2nd Annual Male Empowerment Conference was an overwhelming success!! Watching 125 adult men positively interact with the 200+ young men was truly a sight to see!!

Together we were able to give out over 50 new and gently used suits and dress shirts and over 100 neck ties after the Mentors for the Day volunteers taught them how to tie them. We were also fortunate to have Master Barber, Gregory Thompson – Owner of GTI Square Barber Shop in East Orange, NJ on deck to give the young men haircuts to ensure they look as good on the outside as they felt on the inside. Our workshops included topics on: Conflict Resolution, Manifesting your Destiny,Entrepreneurship, College Planning, Positively Interacting with Law Enforcement, and Safe Sex.

Special shout out and thank you to the following presenters for delivering quality interactive workshops to motivate and inspired every young man in attendance to be the very best that they can be:

Chike Entrepreneur Coach, Alfred ‘TheRule Breaker’ Blake, Dr Kwame Torian Easterling, Newark Police Department – Sargent Rasheen Peppers The RU NJMedical Students, Honorable Judge Carl Marshall from Union County, Principal Will Worley – Plainfield Public School, and our keynote speaker Thibiti Boone – President Obama Representative on Fatherhood all demonstrated Servant Leadership and love for the young men in our community. We are honored and humbled to be connected to each of you in this season.

Special, Special shout to the most dedicated Fraternity Brothers on the planet; The Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma – Chi Sigma Alumni Chapter for demonstrating“Agape” Love to the young men throughout the day. We are at war for the hearts and mind’s of our Young Men of Color. It’s both and honor and a privileged to line up side by side with my Fraternity Brothers as we take our rightful place in the community as Responsible Leaders who are ready to teach our young men and hold them accountable. This was by far one of my proudest moments as a member of the Fraternity and as the Executive Director of our Non-Profit agency Sigma Community Enrichment Initiative!! To God be the Glory! ~ JCW
